Dr. Malesky is a professor in the Psychology Department at Western Carolina University (WCU).  He has authored over 25 publications in peer-reviewed academic journals and three book chapters.  He has also conducted over 75 presentations at professional conferences.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Memphis and his MBA from Western Carolina University.

Dr. Malesky is a Licensed Psychologist in North Carolina and a Forensic Psychologist by training.  Much of his research has focused on psycho-legal issues.  Approximately three years ago he started researching academic dishonesty.  Specifically, he was interested in how students cheat in online courses.  The initial research project also investigated the threat to higher education posed by companies who purport to take online courses for students.  A component of this research project was published in College Teaching.  In addition, this project was featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education.  Dr. Malesky received the Innovative Scholarship Award and the University Scholar Award (both peer-reviewed) from WCU for his research on Academic Dishonesty.

Dr. Malesky recently collaborated with Dr. Kim Winter to collect data on faculty experiences regarding students cheating in their courses at WCU.  A synopsis of this research can be found at The Faculty Forum.

Dr. Malesky has taught online courses for the past eight years and was the recipient of the 2012-2013 Jay M. Robinson eTeaching Award for his online Forensic Psychology course.  This award recognized exemplary teaching in online courses
